It was standing room only as Arkle alumni from down the years descended upon Casa Mackean to celebrate three decades of theatre making. It was a bittersweet evening, as we celebrated the year just gone and looked ahead at what’s to come in Arkle’s final year.

There’s still plenty to look forward to, including the groups first ever play by Dario Fo and a revival of two of Michael and Rob’s favourite productions at the Fringe.

Spring 2025

Performances: 16th to 18th May
Hill Street Theatre

Accidental Death of An Anarchist by Dario Fo, adapted by Tom Basden
directed by John Lally

Comedy / 1-3w, 4-5m

An irrepressible fraudster known only as the Maniac is brought into Police Headquarters just as the officers are preparing for a judicial review of the recent ‘accidental’ death of a suspect in custody. Outwitting his captors, the Maniac dupes them into performing a farcical recreation of the incident, exposing the absurd corruption and terrifying idiocy at the heart of the system.

Auditions for Accidental Death of An Anarchist will take place on Monday 20 January.

Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025

Performances: 11th to 16th August
Hepburn Suite, Royal Scots Club

The 39 Steps by Patrick Barlow,
directed by Rob Mackean

Comedy / 1w, 1m, 2any

Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps, a fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre! This two-time Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning treat is packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters (played by a ridiculously talented cast of four), an onstage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers, and some good old-fashioned romance!

A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare,
directed by Judith Walker

Comedy / 14+

Four young Athenians run away to the forest, only to get caught up in a magical muddle. Arkle’s final production will be the quintessential Shakespeare comedy. Boundless fun and possibilities.

As always, ticket details and audition news will be shared on the Arkle Facebook Page, or you can contact us to be added to be added to our newsletter.

It is sure to be a busy and eventful year as we write the final pages in Arkle’s story. We hope to see you in the audition room and in the audience soon. Until then, we wish you all a wonderful festive season from Arkle Theatre Company.
